About Dr. Canavan

Patrick J. Canavan, Psy.D. has a demonstrated history of helping organizations improve their management, administrative, financial, regulatory and/or clinical  performance. Dr. Canavan has served as a Vice President for Consulting Services, working with state governments on IT infrastructure projects.  He has extensive experience working both in government and in the private sector. 

With a proven track record as a hospital executive at Howard University Hospital, an urban university hospital and as CEO of St. Elizabeths Hospital in Washington DC, Dr. Canavan has used his management skills to positively impact the institutions he has led.  Whether the challenges were primarily financial or operational, Dr. Canavan led successful teams.

Regulatory and compliance activities are a significant aspect of Dr Canavan’s experience. As the Director of the DC Department or Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, he focused this agency to be customer-responsive and community supportive, while regulating several distinct business and housing functions. He led St. Elizabeths efforts to comply with Federal civil rights standards and state licensing requirements, ultimately resulting in the successful resolution of these cases. 

Dr. Canavan is a trained psychologist who applies his expertise in understanding behavior to improve major organizations.  He listens, he seeks consensus, and he prioritizes issues.  Dr. Canavan relies on his extensive executive management experience to coach emerging and current leaders to meet their career and organizational goals.
